Spain is champion of the 2026 World Cup after beating Argentina 1-0 in the Final, but the road there left behind a collection of records that go well beyond the trophy.
Start with the defense: of the 8 matches Spain played in the tournament, it conceded a goal in only one — the 2-1 win over Belgium in the Quarterfinals. The other 7 (Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia, Uruguay, Austria, Portugal, France, and the Final against Argentina itself) all ended with a clean sheet.
Behind that stat sits the tournament's other great record: goalkeeper Unai Simón. His scoreless streak didn't start at this World Cup — it carried over from Qatar 2022, from the goal Japan's Ao Tanaka scored against him in that edition's group stage. From there, Simón added the remaining 39 minutes of that match, the full 120 minutes of the Round of 16 against Morocco (settled on penalties), and then all 8 of Spain's complete matches in 2026 up until the 41st minute of the Quarterfinal against Belgium, when Charles De Ketelaere finally beat him.
Those 650 minutes comfortably beat the previous record, which had stood for 36 years: Italy's Walter Zenga's 517 minutes at Italy 1990. It also surpassed the previous best by a Spanish goalkeeper, Iker Casillas's 476 minutes between South Africa 2010 and Brazil 2014.
The squad also left its mark on this site's all-time scoring lists. Lamine Yamal, with his goal against Saudi Arabia at 18 years and 343 days old, entered the top 10 youngest goalscorers in World Cup history — landing at #7, just ahead of Lionel Messi on that same list. And Mikel Oyarzabal, with his goals this tournament, reached 5 for the national team, tying for third place on Spain's all-time scoring list alongside Emilio Butragueño, Fernando Hierro, Raúl, and Fernando Morientes — all behind only David Villa, with 9.

Spain closes out the 2026 World Cup with its second title — the first came at South Africa 2010 — and with a handful of records that will stay in the books long after the celebrations end.
